A fifteen day event, April 20 - May 4 beginning at dawn on the 20th and ending at 5pm on the 4th.
Awards Ceremony will be held on May 5th at James & Joseph.
Only White Seabass (Atractoscion nobilis) may be submitted for this tournament. Contest fish are limited to legal species of Atractoscion nobilis as defined by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Ocean Sport Fishing Regulations (please refer to the DFG website).
Only a SINGLE speared fish may be entered during the duration of the fifteen day event by each participant.
Largest single speared White Seabass (by weight) wins the 1st Place prize, followed by 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Freediving only while using spearguns and pole spears only. No tanks, hooks, nets, traps, fishing rods, or bang sticks can be used to capture fish.
Fish may be taken in lawful areas (please refer to the DFG website) south of Point Conception and north of the Mexican Border.
For your fish entry to be valid, it must be taken to one of our weigh station partners (see below) where white seabass will be weighed on a certified scale, photographed with the diver and the head will be donated to HSWRI for study. The otoliths will be returned to you per request.
Each participant must possess a valid fishing license and must be in accordance with all State regulations.
